With the festive season fast approaching (less than 86 days to be precise), Etsy has released six new trends for Christmas 2022. From mood-boosting hues to après ski style, there’s something to help everyone celebrate.
‘This festive season, shoppers are prioritizing human connections more than ever, and cherishing the communities and relationships that matter most to them,’ the team at Etsy say. ‘Through so much change over the last few years, these relationships have weathered the storm, making them all the more important to celebrate.’
Getting set for the festive season? Take a look at the top trends below…
1. Merry and Bright
A fun alternative to the traditional Christmas color palette, Merry and Bright is all about living up your home in new ways. According to the online marketplace, there has been a 346 per cent increase in searches for disco ball decor, an 86 per cent rise in vibrant wall art, and a 24 per cent search increase for colorful wreaths.
‘This playful and mood-boosting aesthetic represents a fresh start, reminding us to celebrate in ways that bring us happiness, and to spread cheer well beyond the new year,’ say the team at Etsy.
2. Enchanted Forest
Reap the wellbeing benefits of the outside space by tapping into Etsy’s second Christmas trend, Enchanted Forest. Inspired by our desire to connect with nature in recent years, it sees shoppers embrace emerald green, midnight blue, rich velvet and faux fur accents for a layer of drama.
‘On Etsy, we’ve seen a 118 per cent increase in searches for nature-inspired home decor, a 37 per cent increase in searches for enchanted forest-inspired decor, and an 18 per cent increase in searches for luna moth items.’
3. Après Ski
Dreaming of a white Christmas? You’ve come to the right place. Etsy’s Après Ski trend is inspired by the ritual of sipping, snacking and socializing mountain-side after a long day on the slopes. While we might not all be able to enjoy jovial cheer from the mountain top this Christmas, Après Ski is about bringing that feeling into our homes — even if it’s just with a chunky new knit.
Over the recent months, Etsy has seen a 183 per cent increase for knit balaclavas, puffer bags (163 per cent), retro ski jackets (16 per cent), and ski gear (13 per cent) as people get ready for festive holidays.
‘Much like summer’s coastal grandma craze, the appeal of this alpine aesthetic is all about the lifestyle it evokes: more than just chunky knits and sporty jackets, après ski is a feeling,’ say the team.
Pearlcore is a larger trend than just wearing a strand of pearls. On Etsy, there has been a 44 per cent increase in searches for pearl shoes and bags, while a further 31 per cent of shoppers have been looking for pearl drop earrings. And it’s not just fashion: for Christmas, Etsy expects households to embrace iridescent accents and ethereal decorations.
5. Kitchen Kitsch
With its eclectic nature, kitsch interiors are back in vogue – and they’re trending for Christmas. In fact, Etsy has seen searches increase for retro decor, vintage pyrex, old-school cookie jars, whimsically-patterned mugs, and stylish home pieces that will add a personality to any space. It might be the season for Christmas garlands and fresh foliage wreaths, but 2022 is all about infusing a kitschy, cosy, vibe to any kitchen.
6. New Age Rituals
‘After the turbulent last few years, a shift towards healing and introspection has come into focus, as shoppers connect with their deeper selves and tap into the power of the universe,’ say the team at Etsy, who have noticed an interest in spiritual practices and New Age rituals.
Trending items for the holidays include aura art, affirmation cards for daily motivations, angel number items and tarot-inspired necklaces.
